STAR WARS droid/puppet/prop Mastermind (and Special Edition Boba Fett!) Don Bies comes to DCS Aug 21st!
We are honored to welcome a true industry legend to our show, the great Don Bies will be making a special appearance on Saturday at the event, August 21st! Don’s career began doing creature effects on David Cronenberg’s THE FLY in 1986, followed by work as a puppet engineer on INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE in 1989, the same year he worked on creature effects for GHOSTBUSTERS II and as a mechanical engineer on THE FLY II. In the years that followed, he worked as a creature technician on FIRE IN THE SKY, model maker for RADIOLAND MURDERS, model maker for STARSHIP TROOPERS, puppeteer on FLUBBER, chief model maker for GALAXY QUEST, model maker for PEARL HARBOR, model maker for A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, model maker for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, model maker for PETER PAN (2003), senior model maker for WAR OF THE WORLDS, senior model maker for THE ISLAND, senior model maker for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III, senior model maker for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST, and model/miniature maker for EVAN ALMIGHTY.
He started his work on STAR WARS with THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Special Edition in 1997, making models and creatures for STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI Special Edition, model maker and puppeteer (for R2-D2) in STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE, droid unit supervisor and R2-D2 operator in STAR WARS: EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES, droid unit supervisor and R2-D2 operator in STAR WARS: EPISODE III – REVENGE OF THE SITH. Don also appeared on screen as Boba Fett and Barquin D’an in STAR WARS: EPISODE VI – RETURN OF THE JEDI Special Edition, Pod Race Mechanic in STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE, and Artuo Pratuhr in STAR WARS: EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES. If you ever saw the documentary R2-D2: BENEATH THE DOME, Don is not only featured, but also wrote and directed special sequences for it. Don is appearing courtesy of Rebelscum.com and Order 66 Toystore, and will be signing at their booth at the show on Saturday Only. We’re incredibly excited to welcome Don to our show for this very rare appearance, so let’s make sure to give him a warm Texas welcome!
